7-Day Ayahuasca Retreat in Costa Rica
A full week at OM Jungle Medicine offers the time and space to move more deeply into the medicine, the land, community, ancestral teachings and integration.
Over seven days and six nights, guests experience three Ayahuasca ceremonies alongside guided yoga, Indigenous workshops, medicinal garden teachings, integration, nourishing farm-to-table meals and time to rest and reconnect with nature.
Ceremonies are held in the maloka with an Indigenous family or visiting Indigenous tribe — OM invites tribes from Brazil, Peru, and Colombia to practice and share their ancestral traditions. Events are intimate, with a maximum of 30 guests, on a private 17-hectare jungle property in Guanacaste, Costa Rica — approximately two hours from Liberia International Airport (LIR).
What to expect: the 7-day retreat schedule, day by day
The itinerary below is a sample of how the week often unfolds. Each retreat carries its own rhythm, and the exact schedule, workshops and teachings vary with the visiting tribe or Indigenous family hosting the week — though the balance of ceremony, rest and integration remains.
Day 1 — Arrival & Settling In
Arrival at OM Jungle Medicine is between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
This first day is intentionally gentle. There is no medicine ceremony on Day 1.
After arriving, you will settle into your accommodations, complete any remaining paperwork and have time to become familiar with the land and the people who will be sharing this journey with you.
We gather for dinner, connection and community before allowing the evening to become quiet.
This is a time to arrive fully — not only physically, but mentally and emotionally — and prepare for the days ahead.
Day 2 — First Medicine Ceremony
The morning begins gently with time on the land, nourishing food and guided yoga.
During the day, guests will also begin experiencing the Indigenous teachings and workshops that are woven throughout the week.
As evening approaches, we begin preparing for our first Ayahuasca medicine ceremony.
We gather in the maloka, where ceremony is held with an Indigenous family or visiting Indigenous tribe carrying their own traditions, prayers, songs and relationship with the medicine.
This first ceremony opens the journey.
After ceremony, guests remain supported as the night comes to a close and are given the space they need to rest.
Day 3 — Second Medicine Ceremony
Day 3 carries us more deeply into the experience with our second Ayahuasca ceremony.
After leaving the maloka in the morning, guests walk through the garden and return slowly into the day.
Breakfast is available, followed by time for rest, hydration and recovery.
We prepare our own natural electrolyte drink using honey from our farm, limes from our garden and mineral salt, helping replenish the body after ceremony.
Lunch is served later in the day, and we come together for integration, giving everyone an opportunity to begin processing what arose during the first two ceremonies.
The remainder of the day allows for rest and connection before moving into the second medicine ceremony.
Day 4 — Rest, Integration & Connection
After two medicine ceremonies, Day 4 is intentionally a ceremony-free day.
The body, mind and spirit need time to rest and integrate.
There is no Ayahuasca ceremony today.
The pace slows, allowing guests to sleep, nourish themselves, spend time in nature and begin making sense of what has surfaced during the previous ceremonies.
Throughout the day there may be integration, guided yoga, workshops, time in the gardens, community connection and quiet personal time.
This day is not about doing more. It is about allowing the work already underway to settle.
Day 5 — Third Medicine Ceremony
Day 5 brings us together for our third and final Ayahuasca ceremony of the week.
By this point, guests have had time to move through two ceremonies, rest, integrate and deepen their relationship with the medicine, the land and the community around them.
The day unfolds gently with nourishing food, time for reflection and preparation for the evening ahead.
As night approaches, we return to the maloka for the final medicine ceremony.
For many people, this third ceremony becomes an opportunity to bring together the experiences and teachings of the week before beginning the transition toward integration and home.
Day 6 — Integration, Ancestral Teachings & Community
Day 6 is dedicated to bringing the experience back into the body and into everyday life.
After the final ceremony, there is time for rest, nourishing meals and integration.
Throughout the week, guests participate in three Indigenous workshops, offering opportunities to learn directly from Indigenous knowledge keepers and the traditions they carry.
Guests also participate in a medicinal garden workshop, connecting the ceremonial experience with the living medicines growing around us at OM Jungle Medicine.
Guided yoga, ice baths, time in nature, community connection and quiet reflection may also form part of the day.
As the week begins drawing to a close, the focus shifts from journeying inward toward understanding how the experience can be carried forward.
Day 7 — Closing & Departure
Our final morning together is a time for grounding, connection and closure.
We share breakfast and have space to reflect on the week before preparing for departure.
The relationships created during retreat do not simply end when guests leave the property.
Integration continues beyond the retreat, and the community created during the week can remain an important source of connection and support.
Guests leave OM Jungle Medicine carrying not simply the memory of three ceremonies, but a week of relationship with the medicine, the land, ancestral teachings, community and themselves.
The 7-day retreat starts at $2,800, including shared accommodation with your own private sleeping pod. See what retreats cost in Costa Rica for the full picture.

Frequently asked questions
Is this retreat suitable for someone experiencing Ayahuasca for the first time?
Yes. In fact, for someone experiencing Ayahuasca for the first time, we often encourage the week-long retreat when time allows.
The additional time gives you space to experience the medicine, rest between ceremonies, integrate what arises and receive support throughout the process.
Our shorter weekend retreat can also be appropriate for people with limited time.
How many Ayahuasca ceremonies are included?
The 7-day retreat includes three Ayahuasca ceremonies.
The ceremonies are intentionally spaced throughout the week to allow time for rest, integration and preparation between experiences.
Who serves the medicine?
Our ceremonies are held with Indigenous facilitators, including Indigenous families and visiting tribes who bring their own traditions, prayers, songs and relationship with the medicine.
What happens if I take antidepressants or other medications?
Certain medications can interact dangerously with Ayahuasca.
If you are taking antidepressants or other medications that may be contraindicated, they must be addressed before participating.
Any reduction or discontinuation of prescribed medication should be done with your doctor or prescribing healthcare professional, never abruptly or without medical guidance.
Medical screening is part of our retreat process.
What airport should I fly into?
The closest airport is Liberia International Airport (LIR) in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
OM Jungle Medicine is approximately two hours from Liberia Airport.
We can connect guests with trusted drivers for transportation to and from the property. Transportation is not included in the retreat price.
Do I need to follow a special diet before Ayahuasca?
Preparation recommendations vary among traditions.
After registration, you will receive the dietary and preparation guidelines appropriate for your retreat so that you know how to prepare before arriving.
Will I purge during Ayahuasca?
Purging can happen, but it does not look the same for everyone.
Purging may include vomiting or diarrhea, but it can also appear as yawning, sweating, shaking, laughing or crying.
There is no single “correct” way to experience the medicine.
What kind of integration support is available?
Integration begins before you arrive and continues after you leave.
When you register, you are added to a WhatsApp group that provides a space for pre-retreat preparation, connection and support.
Your retreat includes three integration sessions, and the WhatsApp group remains open afterward so the community created during the retreat can continue.
OM Jungle Medicine continues nurturing that space, and when someone needs additional individual support, we can provide referrals to integration coaches.
What type of accommodation is available?
Shared accommodation includes your own private sleeping pod, allowing you privacy within a shared environment.
Private cabinas may also be requested and are available subject to availability.
Are meals included?
Yes. Farm-to-table, locally sourced meals are included throughout your stay.
Food and nourishment are an important part of the retreat experience and of caring for the body between ceremonies.
Are ice baths optional?
Ice baths are included as part of the week-long retreat.
They are approached as a community experience with music, singing and support.
What happens after the retreat?
Our relationship with guests does not have to end when the retreat ends.
The WhatsApp community remains available for continued connection and integration, and our team can help connect guests with additional integration support when needed.
