How to Get to OM Jungle Medicine — From Liberia, Tamarindo, Nosara & San José

OM Jungle Medicine sits in the mountains near Hojancha, Guanacaste, in the interior of Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula — one of the world's five Blue Zones. We're about two hours from Liberia International Airport (LIR) and within easy reach of the Guanacaste beach towns. Here's how to reach us from the places most guests start.

All drive times below are approximate — mountain roads and weather vary. When you book, we'll confirm current timing and can connect you with trusted drivers for pickup (transportation isn't included in the retreat price).

Which airport should I fly into?

Liberia International Airport (LIR) is the right choice for almost everyone. It receives direct flights from many US and Canadian cities, and from there it's roughly a two-hour drive to OM. San José (SJO) also works if your flight options are better there — expect a longer, but scenic, drive.

From Liberia Airport (LIR) — about 2 hours

The most common arrival. The route runs south through Guanacaste toward the Nicoya Peninsula, through Santa Cruz and Nicoya, and up into the Hojancha hills. Land by late morning and you'll comfortably make the retreat arrival window. We can connect you with a trusted driver for the airport pickup — just ask when you register.

From Tamarindo and the Gold Coast — about 1.5 to 2 hours

Staying on the coast before your retreat? From Tamarindo (and nearby beach towns like Flamingo or Playa Grande), the drive winds inland through Santa Cruz and Nicoya, then climbs into the hills — roughly an hour and a half to two hours depending on your starting point. Many guests pair a beach stay with a Weekend / 3-Day retreat and return to the coast afterward.

From Nosara — about 1 to 1.5 hours

Nosara sits on the peninsula's coast, so you're already close. The route runs inland via Nicoya (the stretch nearest Nosara is famously bumpy — allow extra time in rainy season). For Nosara's yoga and surf community, OM is an easy inland trip — close enough to visit without leaving the peninsula.

From Sámara — about an hour or less

Sámara is our closest well-known beach town, just down from the Hojancha hills. If you're already in Sámara, you're nearly here.

From San José (SJO) — about 3.5 to 4 hours

From the capital, the drive crosses the Gulf of Nicoya via the La Amistad (Tempisque) bridge and continues through Nicoya to Hojancha. It's a longer trip but a beautiful one. If you'd rather not drive it, ask us about driver options when you register.

Should I rent a car or use a driver?

Both work. A rental gives you freedom to explore Guanacaste before or after your retreat — the final stretch to OM is mountain road, so ask us about current conditions when you book. If you'd rather arrive rested, we can connect you with trusted drivers from the airport or the beach towns; you'll travel with someone who knows the road well.

When should I arrive?

Retreats begin with arrival between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM on Day 1 — an intentionally gentle afternoon of settling in, with no ceremony on arrival day. From the coast that means an easy morning departure; from Liberia, a late-morning landing works well.
